Performed end of June2019 in the Political detainees section, Qasr Prison, Tehran

The setting is in the French penal colony in Cayenne (Le Bagne de Cayenne), commonly known as Devil’s Island (l’Ile du Diable).

Opened in 1852 in the Salvation Islands of French Guiana the penal colony held convicts deported from all parts of the French Empire.

It was also used to incarcerate French political prisoners.

Notorious for its harsh treatment of detainees, with a death rate of up to 75%, it was finally closed down in 1953.
